  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar Light or dark brown sugar can be used.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For added flavor.
  • 2 large eggs At room temperature.
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup maraschino cherries, chopped Drained and excess liquid removed.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Semi-sweet or dark chocolate.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and eggs to the mixture and beat until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the flour, mixing until just incorporated.
  5. Fold in the chopped maraschino cherries and chocolate chips.
Baking
  1. Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  3. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

These cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For a fun twist, try adding nuts or coconut to the dough.
