Ingredients
  

Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure the butter is at room temperature.
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs Use room temperature eggs for best results.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Pure vanilla extract is recommended.
Dry Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • a pinch salt
Add-Ins
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Chocolate or semi-sweet.
  • 1 cup Maraschino cherries, drained and roughly chopped Reserve a few whole cherries for decoration, if desired.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract until creamy.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped Maraschino cherries.
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased cookie sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Baking
  1. Bake for about 10 to 12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  2. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  3. Enjoy warm, but try not to eat them all at once!

Notes

You can freeze the cookie dough for up to three months. For an extra touch, reserve whole cherries for decoration before baking.
